Bharatanatyam is one of the most ancient dance forms, which dates back more than 2000 years in the temples of South India. This art form involves intricate poses, vivid gestures, and graceful expressions. Through the dance, the dancer depicts various subtle nuances of music in front of an audience without verbally relaying the message.

Arangetram means "ascending the stage". The dancer performs after several years of rigorous training from the Guru in front of a varied and eager audience. The dancer offers the performance to the dance divinity Lord Nataraja, the Guru, family, friends, and well-wishers. A successful Arangetram ends with the audience and guru acknowledging the pupil's transition from student to artist.
